MEDiThings, a digital healthcare startup developing AI-based wearable technology for patients with bladder dysfunction, completed its Series A funding round.


The investment came at a challenging time for the startup funding market and reflected continued interest in MEDiThings’ patient-centered approach to bladder care. Financial investors in the round included InterVest and DTNI Investment, while Huons Meditech participated as a strategic investor, bringing expertise in medical device manufacturing.


MEDiThings is developing a compact wearable device that helps monitor bladder status through a smartphone application. The solution is designed to support patients who have difficulty recognizing the need to urinate, including those with neurological conditions such as dementia, Parkinson’s disease, cerebrovascular disease, and spinal cord injury.


These patients often experience challenges such as urinary incontinence, urinary retention, and recurrent urinary tract infections. Because it can be difficult to predict the appropriate timing for urination or catheterization, many patients face restrictions in daily activities and reduced quality of life.


Aram Kim, CEO of MEDiThings and a urologist at Konkuk University Medical Center specializing in neurogenic bladder, began developing the solution together with Sehwan Kim, Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Dankook University, after hearing the needs of patients and families in clinical practice.


According to Aram Kim, resolving bladder management issues is a critical need for young patients with spinal cord injuries, elderly patients with dementia or Parkinson’s disease, and their families. He noted that the investment would help support the broader use of digital healthcare in bladder dysfunction management.


MEDiThings previously received early-stage investment from SparkLabs, D.CAMP, and Kakao Ventures. The company has also completed an initial exploratory clinical study at Konkuk University Medical Center and has been preparing further clinical research in Korea and the United States.


Through its technology, MEDiThings aims to help patients, families, healthcare professionals, and caregivers better understand bladder status and make more informed decisions about urination and catheterization timing.
